The annual AIA Central States Region Conference will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 23, and 24 in Springfield, Missouri. It is hosted by AIA Springfield, a component of the American Institute of Architects. The geographic area of the Central States region includes the states of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, and past conference attendance has ranged from 200 to 300 participants.
The theme of the conference is “Confluence – Architects in Collaborations.” All presentations will take place on Friday, and will include keynote presentations by Mara Partida and Hector Mendoza of the firm MX_St, of Barcelona, Spain; Brian Mackay-Lyons of the firm Mackay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects of Halifax, Nova Scotia; and closing keynote speaker David Lewis of the firm LTL Architects of New York City, who is serving as chair of the regional design awards jury. The conference schedule includes three additional 45-minutes presentations for each of three sub-themes:
- Architects in Collaborations with Businesses and Communities
- Architects in Collaborations with Allied Professionals
- Architects in Collaborations with Academia and Research
Presentation proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Relevance to conference theme and sub-theme
- Freshness of subject matter
- Potential for qualifying for AIA Continuing Education credit
